Cliff Kirby, CEO
Cliff Kirby is a product and engineering leader with over two decades of experience translating complex problems into commercially scalable solutions. Trained as a Mechanical Engineer, he founded an engineering design consultancy early in his career and has since built a reputation for taking ideas from concept through regulated production and global deployment. Cliff has led end-to-end product development programs for blue-chip organizations including Rolls-Royce, Caterpillar, Tyco, 3M, and Paccar, operating at the intersection of engineering rigor, manufacturing scale, and real-world usability. His work spans ideation, design for manufacture, regulatory alignment, and launch execution. Known for his hands-on leadership style, Cliff builds deep partnerships with customers and stakeholders, often assuming full responsibility for turnkey delivery and mission-critical product launches. His ability to align multidisciplinary teams around execution, not theory, has resulted in multiple successful market introductions across highly demanding environments. At NeedleSmart, Cliff brings a founder-level command of product, process, and scale, ensuring the company’s technology is not only innovative, but durable, manufacturable, and ready for global adoption.
Michael Barron, COO
Michael Barron is a founder, operator, and investor with more than three decades of experience building and scaling organizations at the intersection of vision, capital, and execution. A graduate of Villanova University, Michael brings a founder’s perspective shaped by both institutional investing and hands-on operational leadership. The first two decades of Michael’s career were spent evaluating and managing growth opportunities for family offices and sovereign wealth funds, developing a disciplined understanding of how value is created, sustained, and ultimately scaled. He later made a deliberate transition from capital allocator to operator, working inside high-growth companies to translate strategy into execution, professionalize operations, and prepare platforms for expansion. Across his career, Michael has helped build and lead multiple investment and operating businesses from inception to more than $1B in assets under management, serving as the connective tissue between product innovation, market adoption, and capital formation. His work consistently centers on turning complex ideas into durable, execution-ready systems. At NeedleSmart, Michael oversees operations, business development, and global strategy, bridging long-term vision with real-world execution as the company scales a platform designed to convert clinical activity into structured intelligence and enterprise value.
Kate Wimpenny, Finance Director
Kate Wimpenny is a finance leader and chartered accountant with more than 30 years of experience providing financial stewardship across complex, regulated, and capital-intensive environments. She trained with Ernst & Young after beginning her career as an actuary, developing a rigorous foundation in risk management, governance, and financial control. Her early career included senior finance roles within international insurance and reinsurance organizations, where she operated in highly regulated markets requiring precision, transparency, and long-term capital discipline. This institutional experience shaped her ability to manage complexity, align financial structures with operational reality, and support organizations through growth. Building on this foundation, Kate founded, grew, and successfully exited her own chartered accountancy practice, gaining first-hand insight into what it takes to build a business, scale responsibly, and steward capital through transition. She brought that founder’s perspective directly into NeedleSmart, where financial rigor and execution discipline are essential to the company’s evolution. At NeedleSmart, Kate provides hands-on financial leadership as the company scales, overseeing governance, controls, and capital readiness to support the transition from early innovation to a durable, investable healthcare intelligence platform.
Dr. Jeffrey Cohen, MDChief Medical Officer
Dr. Jeffrey Cohen is a physician executive, surgeon, and healthcare innovator with more than four decades of experience operating at the intersection of clinical care, enterprise healthcare leadership, and medical technology development. Board certified in urology, Dr. Cohen brings a rare perspective shaped by sustained frontline practice alongside executive responsibility within complex health systems. The early decades of Dr. Cohen’s career were spent delivering hands-on clinical care while advancing new technologies inside academic and hospital-based environments, developing a deep understanding of how medicine is practiced, governed, and constrained in real-world settings. He later assumed senior executive roles, including Chief Medical Officer and President and CEO of a 500+ bed quaternary teaching hospital, where he led large-scale operational, financial, and cultural transformation. Across his career, Dr. Cohen has built, led, and advised multiple healthcare and technology ventures, serving as a bridge between clinical reality, system design, and innovation at scale. A prolific inventor named on more than 100 issued U.S. patents, his work consistently focuses on translating complex clinical challenges into scalable, data-driven platforms with lasting institutional value. At NeedleSmart, Dr. Cohen leads clinical strategy and medical alignment, connecting real-world care delivery to technology that converts routine clinical events into structured intelligence, operational readiness, and long-term health outcomes.
Michael Scott,Director of Public Operations
Michael “Mike” Scott is a senior federal operations leader with more than 35 years of experience executing mission-critical logistics and supply-chain operations for the U.S. Department of Defense. He served more than 12 years in the Senior Executive Service (SES), including over six years at the Tier III level—the civilian equivalent of a three-star general, where he was entrusted with enterprise-scale operational responsibility. Most recently, Mike served as Vice Director of the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), headquartered at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, where he helped lead the Department of Defense’s global combat support organization. In this role, he oversaw logistics operations responsible for supplying food, medical materiel, uniforms, construction equipment, nearly all the Department’s fuel, and spare parts supporting U.S. weapons systems worldwide. Previously, Mike served as Deputy Director of DLA Logistics Operations, where he led end-to-end supply chain management across DLA’s nine supply chains. His responsibilities included policy development, performance oversight, and operational execution across some of the most complex and high-volume logistics environments in the federal government. At NeedleSmart, Mike brings this deep operational and federal systems expertise to public-sector deployment and scale. He provides practical insight into how healthcare, logistics, and data systems must function inside real government environments, supporting NeedleSmart’s mission to deliver trusted, execution-ready solutions aligned with the operational realities of DoD, DHA, and VA healthcare systems.
