Cliff Kirby, CEO of NeedleSmart, was invited to speak at Insider’s breakfast event debating whether the North West should compete or collaborate with the original golden triangle of Oxford, Cambridge and London.

The breakfast event included other prestigious speakers and guests who outlined their vision to link science, technology and innovation within Cheshire, Manchester and Liverpool in order to create a “new golden triangle” which can rival that of Oxford, Cambridge and London. This could also have scope to attract further investment in the North West.

During the debate Cliff discussed the innovative NeedleSmart product, which destroys a hypodermic needle at the point of use, and can also gather data on where the needle was used and the drugs administered. Funding the project in the North was initially difficult as Cliff believed the investors in the North were not right for the product.

Having said this, the speakers talked about how the North West can pull together in a compelling way as there is something here for everybody, including many exciting new business sites which can cater for all types of businesses, but especially tech companies.

When further discussing NeedleSmart’s success Cliff added: “We have 18 feasibility trials about to start, a CE mark due to us at the end of October and have international sales lined up. We’re already talking to Chinese partners.”
